Transit buses offer an ideal test bed for new technologies: they are centrally
fueled and maintained, operate on fixed routes, can more easily accommodate
the size and weight of new technologies, have high visibility to the public,
and are typically supported by government funding. There are already over
30 fuel cell buses being demonstrated around the world, with more demonstrations
planned for the next several years. These programs will offer an important
opportunity to test out current state-of-the-art in fuel cell technology,
collect and share data on the buses' performance, implement hydrogen fueling
infrastructure, and educate the public and policymakers about this new technology.
This website will provide information on each demonstration to facilitate
information sharing among those involved in the fuel cell bus programs and
those interested in finding out more. We will update each section regularly,
providing news as it happens on the programs' status and results.
